Greeneville is nestled in the rolling foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Full of rich and colorful history, it is Tennessee’s second-oldest community, founded in 1783. Named for the Revolutionary War hero General Nathaniel Greene, Greeneville served for a short time as the capital of the State of Franklin, a failed attempt to secede from the Union. Today, Greeneville is the seat of Greene County and houses all the region’s government offices, including courts.
